Rogers Corporation recently donated three laptops to the Williamsville Fire Department. The laptops will be used to provide support for the department’s emergency personnel and the residents they serve. The Williamsville Fire Department was formed in 1833, and now provides fire and emergency medical protection for an area that includes the village of Rogers, the Rogers Corporation facility, the Danielson Airport, the Harvard H. Ellis Regional Technical School, and portions of the Killingly borough of Dayville.
The department took its name from the original name of the village it served, which derived its identity from the cotton mill founded by the Williams Brothers. The brothers acquired 27 acres for their mill and other buildings near the banks of the Quinebaug River. In 1913 the Goodyear Tire Co. purchased the Williams’ mill to produce the cotton material used to reinforce rubber tires, and the village subsequently changed its name to Goodyear.
The mill was closed in 1932 during the Great Depression, and sat idle until 1935 when Rogers Corporation acquired the property to produce paper and specialty products. In 1954, residents voted to rename the village Rogers, as it remains known today.
Rogers Corporation is pleased to be able to contribute to the modernization of the Williamsville Fire Department by providing laptops at no cost. “These laptops are in very good condition and will allow department members to complete tasks electronically from various locations,” added Mark Scribner of the Rogers IT department.
